Code of Behaviour
The Code of Behaviour applies to all employees of Sheffield Hallam University and aims to establish a framework of expectations for professional behaviour at work. The University’s Management and the Trade Unions recognise that working together in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect is in the interests of the organisation and the people who work for it.
The purpose of this code is to establish a set of ground rules and a shared understanding which help to avoid conflict and make it easier for colleagues to communicate with each other and minimise misunderstandings.
Problem Resolution Framework
The University's Problem Resolution Framework provides a structured approach to resolving people issues in the workplace and is used where normal line management actions have failed to achieve a solution. It was jointly developed and agreed by University management and the recognised trade unions, with the contribution and endorsement of ACAS.
The framework applies to all employees of the University, unless covered by contractual arrangements protected by TUPE or individuals within a probation period.
Dignity at Work Policy
The Dignity at Work Policy (Anti-harassment) sets out the University's commitment to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive working environment where the rights of all are respected (including rights of free speech and academic freedom) and people are treated with dignity and respect.
The Equality Act (2010) provides the legal framework that protects people against harassment, discrimination and victimisation at work.
Relationships at Work
The Relationships at Work and Professional Behaviours Policy is intended to protect staff, students and the University against incidents and allegations of impropriety, bias, abuse of power or conflict of interest, and ensure that systems are in place to limit situations where an abuse of power could develop.
Staff should behave in a professional and respectful manner at all times and demonstrate exemplary behaviours. Staff should avoid any situation where their behaviour could be considered as breaching professional boundaries or lead to accusations of a conflict of interest, no matter how well-intentioned.
