What Students Say About Report and Support
"Reach out early and don’t try to manage things alone"
It can be comforting to hear from others who have been through something similar. Your experience is unique, yet knowing that others have faced challenges too can help you feel understood and less alone.
The Student Wellbeing service, including the Report and Support team, invites students to complete a short voluntary feedback form at the end of each semester. Feedback is completely optional, but it is deeply appreciated because it helps us strengthen the support we offer to students and staff.
In 2024–25, 14 students responded to the Report and Support section of the survey. Their feedback shows strong confidence in the service:
- 100% agreed or strongly agreed that it was easy to make a report
- 100% agreed or strongly agreed that they received a quick response
- Of the 13 students who had an appointment, 12 agreed or strongly agreed that it met their needs
- 100% agreed or strongly agreed that the overall support they received was helpful
What Students Value Most
Students told us they appreciated both the practical support and the emotional support they received. In particular, they highlighted:
- Clear guidance and the chance to talk through what happened
- Being referred to the right teams for additional specialist support
- Staff liaising with other services on their behalf
- A safe, confidential space to talk
- Being listened to with empathy and without judgement
- Coping strategies, such as techniques for managing anxiety
- A friendly, welcoming and supportive response throughout
What Students Want Others to Know
When asked what advice they would give to someone in a similar situation, students shared a consistent message: reach out early and don’t try to manage things alone. In their own words:
- "Don't wait to reach out, it's worth the support."
- "Get in contact to see what arrangements and help can be made instead of feeling anxious and alone."
- "Get support as soon as you can - you may not feel that you 100% need it but it can be more useful than you first realise."
- "Ask for help if you need - there is nothing wrong in seeking help."
- "Please ask for help and take as much help as you can get. They are really supportive"
- "Please speak to someone. You do not have to deal with it on your own."
- "Report and support gave me a safe and confidential space to talk ... Support was given regarding assignment deadlines and referring me to appropriate teams to provide further support."
- "Report it, even if it doesn't feel a big deal, you can get support."
- "Report it, even if nothing happens after the situation."
Report and Support Data
Each year we gather data from the reports to produce an anonymised annual report which includes the number of reports submitted, the types of incident, the location, the number of people who have accessed the Report and Support service and the outcomes of our work with them.
