Sheffield Hallam Support for Students

Report and Support Team

A team of specially trained members of the Student Wellbeing Team who can help you to go through your options, including reporting the incident to the Police, to the University, or to access medical and emotional support only and make no formal report. To speak to a Report and Support Adviser, please tell us with your details and you will be contacted to arrange an appointment.

We can provide targeted support throughout and referral to conduct procedures where appropriate. Information about the University's student conduct procedures, including how allegations are considered and investigated, can be found in the Student Conduct Regulations and Procedures.

If you choose to name a member of staff in your report, the University will consider the information you provide and determine the most appropriate next steps. Depending on the circumstances, this may include a formal investigation under the relevant University procedures.

Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)

A Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) offers support for a range of needs after a sexual assault.  You can receive forensic medical examinations, referrals for specialist counselling and support, and healthcare including access to medicine.   You don't have to report to the Police, but forensic samples can be taken soon after an assault to preserve that choice if you decide to do this later.

In Sheffield your local Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is Hackenthorpe Lodge. They are here to help you if you have experienced sexual violence and/or sexual abuse. You can call them 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for an initial assessment. They will aim to see you within 90 minutes for an urgent forensic medical examination and it is best to visit them as soon as possible after an incident. The medical and emotional support services are confidential, and they will not tell anyone you’ve contacted or seen them unless you want them to. You can use any of their services without involving the Police.

Phone 0330 223 0099 to discuss their support or book an appointment.

If you are not in Sheffield you can find your local Sexual Assault Referral centre here.
